The Boxer breed was originally started way back in the early 19th century in Germany. Today's Boxer is considered a descendant of the now extinct Bullenbeisser breed. The actual first standard Boxer breed came to be known in 1904 when the first Boxer club, the Deutscher Boxer Club, was founded. Today, those documents are about the same as they were then.
During World War I the Boxer was in the Army! How cool is that? During their stent in the military, they were used as messengers, guard dogs and even attack dogs!

Of course it's hard to imagine any of sweet Suki's ancestor's attacking anything more than a snack or toy! After end of World War II, Boxers began spreading to other parts of the world because they went home with soldiers to be their companions!
The Boxer name comes from these fur babies enjoying standing on their hind legs and using their front paws to "box". This is one of their favorite ways to play! Some people say that this is incorrect but I sure know that Suki has fun "boxing".
Boxers are very energetic. They love to run and play and they need plenty of exercise. One of Suki's favorite things to do, we call "zoomies". She finds a water puddle and runs and runs through it! It is so much fun for her!
Lots of times Boxers can have dental problems and that causes them to have bad breath. YUCK! Did you know that dogs can go to the doggie dentist just like people? Well, they really just go to their veterinarian, but they can clean their teeth and do the same things that our dentists do for us. I think it might be time to make an appointment for Suki because her breath is pretty bad sometimes! Ssshhh don't tell her I said that!
Boxers are very loving and friendly. They are great family dogs. They are also very loyal and protective of their humans.
Once you are loved by a Boxer, you are loved for life. There's no other love like Boxer love.
